The Expedition Programme

Training weekend

Held over two days at the Mill Adventure Base in Nottinghamshire, participants will be taught how to handle bikes safely and cover all aspects of undertaking an expedition by bike. They will also begin to plan their practice and qualifying expedition.

Practice Expedition

The practice expedition will start and finish in Leicestershire with Rutland Water providing the backdrop of the expedition and the second night campsite; and will consolidate the skills learnt on the training weekend.

Qualifying Expedition

The qualifying expedition is a remote supervised expedition enabling the participants to meet the aims and expedition requirements. You will follow the Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route. For 170 miles between Morecambe and Bridlington, this highly popular route passes through historic cities York and Lancaster, and lesser known gems such as Settle, Pateley Bridge and Ripon. From coast to coast, you'll cycle across beautiful, varied landscape including the Lune Valley,  Yorkshire Dales, Nidderdale and the Yorkshire Wolds and use traffic-free paths, on-road cycle lanes, country lanes and quieter roads. It's a challenge but rewarding cycling adventure for all. You will carry your kit by bike and rest ready for the next day at a campsite each night.
