Duke of Edinburgh Award - Open Silver Expedition (Hiking)

Duke of Edinburgh Award - Open Silver Expedition (Hiking)

Introduction

The Mill Adventure Base AAP is planning an Open Silver expedition training & expedition programme in the Peak District. This programme is suitable for students already enrolled as a Silver DofE participant and who have already completed their Bronze award.

Why us?

The Mill Adventure base AAP has been delivering DofE expeditions for Nottinghamshire schools and students since 2013. As an approved DofE Expedition provider and part of Nottinghamshire County Councils Notts Outdoors Team, all our staff are highly experienced, qualified, DBS checked & first aid trained. Safe working practices following national guidance, risk assessments, operational procedures and government advice will be followed.

Skills training day and practice expedition programme (4 day and 3 nights)

As part of the four day training and expedition programme, each participant will complete a skills training day, training day walk, and the required two days for a Silver Practice.

During the first day, we will be covering all the skills needed to successfully complete a DofE Expedition including Navigation, Tent and Stove use, equipment and packing.

The second day consists of a training walk with one of our trained staff, reinforcing the skills from the training day and expanding on them away from the classroom.

Day three and four of the training also consist of the two-day, one-night practice expedition required as part of the Expedition requirements for the award.
