Visit Leader Training

This course is strongly recommended for all those who lead learning outside the classroom activities and visits.

Visit Leader training equips leaders with the information, guidance and signposting to best practice and resources to help them in being able to take all reasonable care on an educational visit. Training is identified as integral to a strong health and safety culture and the likelihood of accidents and incidents on an educational visit significantly decreases when employees are engaged and committed.

Employers must ensure that they take all reasonably foreseeable precautions and to ensure that due diligence has been exercised regarding educational visits and learning outside the classroom. Appropriate and recognised visit leader training for staff leading school visits delivered by an Outdoor Education Adviser, is recommended by the Outdoor Education Advisors panel who are the lead body for guidance, advice and training related to outdoor learning and educational visits in England and Wales.

The potential risks involved in educational visits can be avoided if the educational visits policy and the advice and guidance provided by the employer are followed carefully. Visit Leader training is for colleagues who lead or plan to lead visits off-site with groups of young people. It is particularly suited to newly qualified or appointed teachers, youth workers and support staff with limited experience. It is also strongly encouraged for colleagues who may need to update their knowledge or application of visit guidance and school policy.

This NottsOutdoors course is delivered by an OEAP member Outdoor Education Adviser. The course includes both theory and practical based content, which deals with active risk assessment and allows the sharing of best practice together with opportunities to raise issues directly related to your setting. We only offically endorse our own courses.
