Hill and Moorland Leader - Training

Mountain Training's Hill and Moorland Leader scheme offers the opportunity to gain experience and demonstrate technical competence in leading groups on walks in hill and moorland areas. The remit of the Hill and Moorland Leader scheme is limited to open, uncultivated, non-mountainous high or remote country which is easily exited in a few hours and areas where movement where movement on steep or rocky terrain is not required.

Upland areas that would fall under the remit of the scheme would be the High Peak, Yorkshire Dales, Dartmoor, the Howgills and North Yorkshire Moors. Qualifying as a Hill and Moorland Leader requires completion of a training course, consolidation period and separate assessment course. 

Both training and assessment courses are run from Hagg Farm located between Kinder Scout and Bleaklow. 

Course requirement

  • A digital logbook must be maintained to demonstrate walking and group leadership experience.

 

Price includes bunkhouse accommodation in the John Hunt Base at Hagg Farm..
